4 Corners Carbon Coalition

Campaign for the launch of a ground-breaking coalition of local governments pooling resources to fund carbon dioxide removal projects in the Western US.
The launch required the development of a logo,

branding guidelines,

… and a website.

The awareness campaign began with a series of informational webinars aimed at journalists, scientists, local governments, and innovators. These sessions described the goals of the coalition and announced a request for proposals “that realize durable, verifiable carbon removal” in local concrete production.
This resulted in earned media coverage in Grist,

a feature in The Hill,

as well as op-ed placement in the same publication.

This media attention helped shore up additional support from the private sector and played a role in convincing Salt Lake City and Santa Fe to join the coalition.

A joint press release issued by all four member governments announced the new partnership and provided information about the coalition’s inaugural round of catalytic grant funding that will support projects integrating carbon dioxide removal and concrete production.
The press release generated regional news coverage in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico as well as a profile on the Nori Podcast.
“There is a reason the communities involved are interested in the idea, however. The coalition’s creation comes as all four states continue to deal with the impacts of drought, wildfires and poor air quality among other climate-related issues.
This includes the Marshall Fire, a devastating wildfire that destroyed more than 1,000 homes in the Boulder County area at the end of 2021. It resulted in $513.2 million in damages, according to KDVR in Denver.
”Boulder County knows all too well the catastrophic impacts of climate change, which is why we are thrilled to partner with other local governments to fight the climate crisis through carbon dioxide removal,” said Boulder County Commissioner Matt Jones. “The 4 Corners Carbon Coalition will take action to develop and test real-world projects to address the enormous challenge we face.””
